The Mona Passage separates Hispaniola from Puerto Rico and connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Caribbean Sea. For centuries, these waters have carried Indigenous voyagers, European explorers, merchants, fishermen, naval vessels, migrants, and sailors moving between the islands.
Its currents, swells, winds, and changing weather have also earned the passage respect among mariners.
Long before modern navigation made crossing easier, the sea here connected communities while simultaneously testing those who traveled between them.

Junior has finally taken the newly refurbished Dream Maker to sea and departed Luperón for a solo crossing. Years of imagining what it would feel like to stand at her helm with the horizon open before him have become reality. The manuscript itself describes how Dream Maker existed under sail in imagination long before the voyage began.
Then reality answers.
Clear skies give way to a fierce squall. Waves hammer the bow, conditions deteriorate, and what Junior expected to be a calm crossing becomes a test of endurance and seamanship.
